The first Michelin Guide was published in 1900 by Édouard and André Michelin to provide motorists with information about where they could have their car serviced or repaired as well as where to find a good place to dine. The star-rating system was first introduced in 1926 as a way to award outstanding restaurants for their excellence in cuisine and hospitality.
