Concept Baked has two locations in New York: one in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and one in Tribeca. I only know the Tribeca location. It is a cozy inviting place which defines itself as “a classic American Bakery and Cafe”. Baked offers a vast array of cookies, muffins, scones, brownies, bars, pies, croissants, turnovers, cakes… They serve an all-day breakfast with plenty of savory options as well as a lot of choice for a lunch: toasts, quiches, sandwiches, soups, salads… Their specialty is the brownie and they even invented the decadent Brookster which is a brownie based tart filled with cookie. Everything is freshly baked onsite, daily. The place is organized into two separated areas:
A nice and tempting counter, where you can place your order to go or to stay ;
A cafe style seating area with different table settings and chairs.
For Whom Anyone who wants to grab something savory or sweet during the day or enjoy a nice break in a warm and casual atmosphere. Baked offers free wifi for customers and outlets are available under the communal tables.
Story Baked was co-founded by Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito. They both used to work in the advertising industry but their dreams were made of pastries and coffee. They decided they would open “a great American bakery which was not a cupcake shop”. The first Baked opened in January 2005 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Matt and Renato love experimenting and creating new recipes. They are the authors of several best-selling cookbooks.
My Experience I discovered Baked by chance one day when I had a meeting in the neighborhood. I had 30 minutes to grab lunch and decided to go into this cute inviting place. The staff at the counter was extremely friendly. I ordered a salad and a tea. I explained I needed to charge my phone and the person who took my order came to show me a spot with outlets under a communal table. My order arrived quickly. The salad was generous and tasted excellent and fresh. It was perfect with my green tea. A few customers were working on their laptops at the communal table. The place didn’t feel too crowded or noisy. I enjoyed the friendly and casual atmosphere as well as the charming decor. I love the huge letter B on the back wall. ~Nathalie
